The first cropped image is using leading lines. The palm trees are lined up next to each other, showing a path leading to the bridge. The path is leading the viewer to the main subject which is the bridge. The road is also a leading line leading the viewer to the same pace as the palm trees.

Leading lines are also shown on this second image the girls pants have lines that lead the viewers eye to the bubbles. The main subjects in this photo are the bubbles.
I think you did great cropping, but you need more practice
